The inevitable thing about sales is that all businesses need sales, new clients or customers to make their world go round. These new clients * shouldn’t be seen as victims but as the start of an ongoing relationship.
So in that spirit I offer you five well honed sales tips;
1. Be clear about what your customer wants
You may think that your product is better than sliced bread, but if no one else believes you, you are in deep trouble.
To sell more of a product you have provide what your customer needs. Ask them questions and let them tell you their wants and needs. Yes, many times they don’t know what their needs are and you’ll have to guide them, but in the end, if they don’t believe it, you don’t have a chance.
2. Know your objective and how to get there
For any sales action including a phone call; know what you are trying to do and how you are going to get there. Build flexibility into your thought processes. If the customer wants to see you at eight in the morning – is that a bad thing – she wants to see you.
3. Sell it to Yourself
You have to believe in your product or else why would anyone else believe in it. Blind confidence is no good but confidence built on the idea that your product is useful and helps people in some way will help you sell.
4. Do What You Promised
Never mind underpromise and over deliver – just do what you said you would do and keep the customer informed of any changes. If you promise to email someone, just do it.
5. Just Do It
It may be a cliché but sales is a numbers game and the basic requirement for a sales person is to turn up to appointments. There is obviously a bit more to it than that but doing the calls/emails need to be done. Whatever the selling strategy it will require actions or actions to make it happen.
*Only two ways to increase sales/turnover – new sales to new customers or new sales to existing customers. It should be easier in many businesses to sell more to existing customers .
